Saii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton: an honest to god review

Updated: Jun 25, 2022

Ok. We weren't supposed to go to Maldives but since my appointment in the US embassy in London was cancelled because Adam was ill, we have to proceed with the plan B, hence we ended up in Maldives. We've chosen Saii Lagoon as our destination because, well it was heavily promoted by British Airways holidays, and it does look beautiful on photos.

So without further ado, here's our honest to god review of Saii Lagoon Maldives.

Location - 9/10

The resort is in a private island located 15 mins by boat from the airport. The island itself is connected by bridge to two more islands owned by Hard Rock Resort and the Crossroads, which is very convenient personally because Id like to have (plenty of) options for dining and shopping. Hence I didnt feel stranded at all because of that.

We went end of March so we experienced a bit of a cloudy day and yet it was still too warm, and too bright. The torquiose-coloured sea didnt disappoint eventhough there was a bit of cloud as well.

Amenities - 9/10

We stayed in the beach front villa and overwater villa, which were fully equipped with all you need from big sofa, massive telly, a very stylish overhead shower overlooking the ocean, and many more. There's plenty of bikes too which is beneficial in exploring the island and others too. There's a mini gym which have basic equipments, big plus because it was pretty empty every time I go. There's childcare services in the area too, so you can chill and enjoy the location whilst ensuring your children are safe and having fun too.

There is an infinity pool by the bar, and three restaurants in Saii itself in which they cater different cuisines. There's hamocks everywhere for you to relax. The resort itself is huge, to the point that you wont feel that it was peak season and fully booked.

I've scored 9 because I felt like there was something missing on our stay, although I cant pinpoint what it is. I dont know maybe I spent too much time in hard rock resort every night enjoying the live band so maybe it was that chill vibe i was yearning for.

Food - 9/10

Lots of culinary expertise to chose from. My favourite will be the seafood buffet at Tom Yam. There was a minor let down when the live band that night couldnt make it but overall, the buffet night was successful. As Ive mentioned, there are plenty of options dining wise including a maldivian restaurant, a steak restaurant, a chinese, indian, thai, restuarant, and offcourse the hard rock cafe. There are also stalls by the crossroad to buy sandwiches and snacks, and a mini mart too.

Tip: Bring your chocolates and crisps because they are a bit pricy in the mini mart. But the dining prices in the restaurants are reasonably priced i would say.

Service and Staff - 7/10

Ive marked down 3 points because I struggled communicating with them - in the sense that Ive never got a response on my queries on email prior to my arrival in the resort. Which led me to send a direct message to them via social media and then was told to send an email to the same email address which I don't get any response at, not even an acknowledgement of receipt. That feeling left me bothered on my arrival and actually I had reservations of liking the resort upon arrival. But it grew on me, all of the staff are very friendly, very polite and very attentive. The Maldivian citizens as well, based on my experience, are the most genuine people. I just had that gut feel that I could trust them.

Best Hotel Experience verdict - 8/10

Staying in Saii Lagoon Maldives was indeed an amazing and enjoyable experience. A topnotch experience indeed, but based on my previous experience with other luxury hotels and resorts, I would only put this on my top 10 list.

Would I recommend it to friends and family?

To some of them yes. My rationale is that I think the resort has a specific market and its perfect for families with children. I personally preferred Hard Rock Resort because of the music and chill vibe. But as what Adam told me, It doesn't really matter because there's a bridge between the two and you can choose to watch the live band in Hard Rock Resort whilst staying in Saii, or the other way around.

Would I go back?

Hmmm, if Im going with the whole family including my nieces, I would say yes because they are very family friendly destination. Although I dont have any negative feeling towards the idea, but if its just me and Adam coming back, I would say no because I'd like to explore other islands too.
